Position Overview
The Executive Security Driver (ESD) serves as the primary protective asset during executive movements and travel operations. This role integrates secure driving, close-in protection, advance planning, domestic travel coordination, and dynamic route management to ensure safe, discreet transportation while maintaining continuous situational awareness and threat avoidance.
The ESD operates within a low-profile security posture and is responsible for both the safety of the principal and the integrity of movement operations. The position requires disciplined judgment, professional discretion, and the ability to anticipate and mitigate risk without disrupting executive productivity or comfort.
This role includes regular domestic travel alongside the principal and participation within a broader executive protection and security operations framework. The ESD will work as part of a coordinated team environment while serving as a primary transportation and protective resource during daily operations and travel assignments.
The ESD works under the direction of the Director of Security Operations (DSO) and in coordination with executive assistants, protection personnel, and external security advisors as required.
Key Responsibilities
Secure Executive Transportation
Provide safe, discreet, and defensive driving services for the executive and authorized principals
Maintain low-profile operational posture during all movements
Ensure vehicle readiness, cleanliness, and operational integrity at all times
Position vehicle strategically to minimize exposure during pick-up and drop-off
Support executive travel movements domestically as required
Protective Operations During Transit
Maintain continuous situational awareness of surroundings, vehicles, and pedestrian activity
Identify anomalies, surveillance indicators, or potential threats during movement
Communicate suspicious activity immediately and delay principal movement if required
Serve as both driver and protective agent when operating in single-asset configuration
Route Planning & Advance Preparation
Conduct pre-movement planning including primary, secondary, and emergency routes
Vary routes and departure timing to reduce predictability
Conduct advance site visits when required to assess entrances, exits, parking, and exposure points
Maintain familiarity with executive residences, offices, airports, hotels, and frequently visited locations
Travel & Operational Support
Accompany the principal during domestic travel assignments as required
Coordinate movement logistics with executive assistants, aviation personnel, hotels, and security partners
Support advance preparation and movement coordination in unfamiliar operating environments
Operate effectively within a team-based executive protection structure
Incident Response & Emergency Management
Respond immediately and appropriately to security incidents during transit
Prioritize evacuation and principal safety over engagement
Maintain knowledge of nearby hospitals and emergency response access points
Coordinate with law enforcement, emergency services, and protective teams as needed
Firearms & Operational Standards
Carry authorized firearm in accordance with company policy and applicable law
Maintain concealment at all times unless lawfully and operationally justified
Demonstrate disciplined use-of-force judgment consistent with company standards
Maintain proficiency in defensive tactics, de-escalation, and emergency response
Coordination & Communication
Work closely with executive assistants regarding daily schedules and changes
Coordinate with Executive Protection Agents and Operations teams when applicable
Maintain clear, concise, and professional communication at all times
Protect confidentiality of executive movements and sensitive information
Qualifications & Experience
Prior experience in executive protection, law enforcement, military, or equivalent protective roles
HR218 / LEOSA credentials strongly preferred
Advanced training in defensive and evasive driving techniques preferred
Experience operating luxury vehicles and executive fleets
Willingness and ability to travel domestically with the principal as required
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Licensed and legally authorized to carry a concealed firearm (as applicable by jurisdiction)
Strong familiarity with urban movement operations and route planning
Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment under pressure
